Purpose: The International Thespian Society is the honor society for secondary school theatre students. Membership is granted for the performance of meritorious work in theatre arts that meets the Society's general guidelines. The mission of ITS is to honor student excellence in the theatre arts. This organization is the pride and support of the entire theatre department here at Newfield High School. Thespian induction is a great motivator for students to become more active in their school's theatre program. Students meet one important induction requirement by earning Thespian points. These are awarded based on the quality and quantity of work they perform in theatre and related disciplines. "Quality" may include the caliber of the work done and the educational value of the experience. Whether or not these students pursue careers in the performing arts, the skills that they learn through theatre and Thespian activities are invaluable and ensure that future generations will appreciate and support the arts in our communities.
Activities include:
Marching in the Homecoming Parade.
Participate in the school Holiday Hallway Decorating Contest.
Participate in Trick-or-Treat Street.
Sponsors Broadway Night and Improv Night.
Community Outreach to elementary schools and Pre-K Read Across America Day.
Fundraisers for causes.
Arranges trips to the city with Tri-M to expand the students' theatrical creativeness.
Overall, supports the entire theatre program at NHS in whatever needs they may have.
